Giants quarterback Eli Manning, who has been mercilessly hit by opponents all year long behind a struggling offensive line, suffered an ankle injury late in the second quarter of the team’s regular season finale against the Washington Redskins at MetLife Stadium.
Manning was injured when he was hit by Redskins defensive lineman Chris Baker as he tried to connect with running back Peyton Hillis on a short pass over the middle. Baker appeared to roll up on Manning’s ankle as the two fell to the ground.
On the next play, Manning, who was sporting a visible limp, tried to throw a pass to tight end Brandon Myers, but could not drop back or step into the throw, which was picked off by cornerback Josh Wilson.
Manning was replaced by Curtis Painter in the second half.
