The New York Giants and Detroit Lions have swapped front office personnel.
Last month, Detroit hired former Giants director of football operations Matt Harriss to become the club’s vice president of football administration.
Today, the Giants announced that they hired former Lions general manager Martin Mayhew to fill Harriss’ role of director of football operations/special projects.
Mayhew, who spent 15 years with the Lions, will collaborate with assistant general manager Kevin Abrams on all aspects of the salary cap, CBA compliance and player contract negotiations. He will also lead special projects as assigned by general manager Jerry Reese.
Mayhew, who was fired as the Lions general manager in November, is a former NFL defensive back, having played nine seasons for Buffalo (1988), who drafted him in the 10th round of the 1988 draft; Washington (1989-92); and Tampa Bay (1993-96).
