New York Giants defensive tackle Jay Bromley has been accused of attempted rape and assault of a 26-year-old woman at a Manhattan hotel, according to the New York Post and the New York Daily News.
The Post’s report claims the alleged attack took place at the Hyatt Herald Square Hotel in midtown early Saturday morning. According to the report, Bromley picked up the woman at her Brooklyn home and headed to Manhattan.
The woman and Bromley, whom the New York Daily News reports met online via Instagram, engaged in a “consensual sexual act” before the alleged rape.
The Daily News reported that the woman demanded Bromley drive her home, but that he refused. The woman then reportedly jumped onto the hood of Bromley’s car to stop him from driving away, but that he failed to stop and she fell off the car and onto the street.
As of Saturday afternoon, Bromley had not been arrested nor charged, as the investigation was still ongoing. The woman was treated at Bellevue Hospital for treatment, including for signs of rape.
Bromley is a 2014 third-round pick for the Giants out of Syracuse. After getting more playing time in 2015, was set to compete for a possible starting role alongside Johnathan Hankins this season.
The Giants are aware of the incident, and issued the following statement: “We have notified the league office per the league’s protocol. We will have no further comment as we understand this is an ongoing investigation.”
